A daily tailgate <br /> safety meeting documentation form is attached as an Appendix to this plan. <br /> 6.0 SITE HISTORY/SCOPE OF SERVICES <br /> It is anticipated that soils and/or groundwater at this project site may be impacted by pesticides <br /> and/or volatile organic compounds. The personal protective equipment and direct-reading air <br /> monitoring protocols specified below are designed to prevent personnel exposure to <br /> contamination in excess of permissible exposure limits. <br /> 7.0 HAZARD ASSESSMENT <br /> 7.1 Chemical Hazards <br /> Soils and groundwater at this project site may be contaminated with Total Petroleum <br /> Hydrocarbons (TPH). Direct contact of skin to contaminated media should be rigorously avoided <br /> in an effort to eliminate possible exposure. Benzene is the most significant health hazard <br /> contained in petroleum blends and typically comprises less than 1% of regular grade gasolines. <br /> Specific health hazard information on petroleum and its most volatile aromatic constituents are <br /> provided below. Additional health-hazard information can be found in the chemical information <br /> sheets attached to this Plan. <br /> GASOLINE <br /> Permissible Exposure Limit <br /> 300 ppm ACGIH TLV <br /> Gasoline is irritating to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Dermatitis may result from <br /> prolonged contact with the liquid. Gasoline acts as a central nervous system depressant. <br /> Exposure may cause staggering gait, slurred speech and mental confusion. Gasoline exposure <br /> may affect the liver, kidneys and spleen. Absorption of alkyl lead antiknock compounds contained <br /> in many gasolines poses an additional health concern, especially where there is prolonged skin <br /> contact. <br /> DIESEL FUEL (No. 2-13) <br /> Permissible Exposure Limit <br /> 100 mg/m3 ppm ACGIH TLV (As mist/vapor) <br /> Diesel fuel is a skin and mucous membrane irritant and a central nervous system depressant. <br /> Poisoning may affect the liver and kidneys. Skin contact may result in drying and cracking of the <br /> skin. <br /> 6 <br />
