Soil Suitability} Nitrate Loading Study 1 rerracon
Whitlow Property a Stockton. CA
November 20, 2019 . Terracon Project No. NAl97078
1.4.3 Water Sample Location
On October 1, 2019, two groundwater samples (GW-1 and GW-2) were collected from a faucet
directly attached to the groundwater well tank.
1,4,4 Groundwater Sample Analysis
Sample GW-1 was collected into a clean unpreserved plastic 125 milliliter(ml)bottle and analyzed
for nitrate as N by EPA Extraction Method E300.1. Sample GW-2 was collected into two clean
glass 40 ml VCAs preserved with ascorbic and me#eic acid and analyzed for DE3CP (1,2-Dibromo-
3-chloropropane) by EPA Extraction Method E524.3.
1.4.5 Groundwater Sample Handling
The groundwater samples were immediately placed on ice and submitted to McCampbell
Analytical Inc. for analysis. Nitrate as N was reported at 15 mg/L in groundwater sample GVV-1
above the MCL of 10 rng/L-N. Groundwater sample GW-2 reported at 0.016 micrograms per liter
(ug/L) for DBCP which is below the MCL of 0,20 ugfL.
1.5 Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The site is depicted on the Geologic Map of Califomia 2010. as within generalized quaternary
Pleistocene and Holocene deposits which are comprised primarily of unconsolidated and semi-
consolidated alluvium, lake, playa, and terrace deposits.
Terracon reviewed the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources
Conversation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survev for information regarding soil properties. Based
on information obtained from the USDA sources, the site consists of the following soil types.
Table 3.
USDA Soil Types,
Map Symbol Name Percent of Site Location
160 Galt clay 15.4 Southwest comer
Located across the majority of the
173 Hollenbeck silty clay 84.6 site with the exception of the
southwest corner.
Based on the USDA soil map, the proposed septic system will be developed within Hollenbeck
silty clay soils. According to the USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin County (1992), Hollenbeck
silty clay soils consist of moderately well drained soils with 0 to 2 percent slopes. Typical soil
profiles consist of 0 to 37 inches clay, 37 to 42 inches silty clay loam, and 42 to 60 incites
cemented soils. The main limititations For this soil type include high shrink swell potential, slow
permeablity and low strength, For homesites with septic systems, the slow permeability can be
Responsive a Resourceful ■ Reliable 8
