Discussion of Soil Lithology <br /> A visual inspection of the shallow soils from the test borings supports unfavorable <br /> conditions for shallow septic disposal systems; the area is known to have clay and sand- <br /> silt mixtures at shallow depths. A visual inspection of soils at greater depths indicated <br /> poorly-graded sands that provide more favorable conditions for seepage pits. For this <br /> area of San Joaquin County, seepage pits are often used with leach lines. Generally, <br /> coarse-grained soil has a greater potential for percolation than fine-grained or cemented <br /> soil.
