1 URS
f
June 11,2004
I
San Joaquin Public Health Service
Environmental Health Division
304 E.Weber Avenue, third Floor
Stockton, California 95202
Attention: Mr. Jeffrey Wong
Re: First Quarter 2004 Groundwater Monitoring Report E
iFormer American Forest Products Facility
Stockton,California
URS Project No. 17322736 f
Dear Mr.Wong:
On behalf of Mr. William Bergvall, consultant for American Forest Products Company LP, URS
I
Corporation Americas (URS) is submitting this letter report that includes results of first quarter
4 groundwater monitoring conducted in March 2004 at the Former American Forest Products Facility,
' Stockton, California (Figures 1 and 2). Groundwater monitoring was conducted, and this report
produced, following the requirements presented in a letter from Mr. Jeffrey Wong of the San Joaquin
-{ County Public Health Service(PHS/EHD)dated April 16, 2003.
Water levels were measured and groundwater samples were collected from site monitoring wells DMW-
1 through DMW-9 on March 19, 2004. Well construction details for all of the wells are included in '
Table 1. Field records and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix A. A Data Validation
Summary and analytical laboratory reports are included in Appendix B.
FIELD METHODS
I
Static water levels(Table 2) were measured prior to initiating sampling activities using an electric water
level sounder.
L
Prior to sampling, the wells were purged to ensure representativeness of the water samples. A 2-inch-
diameter Grundfos submersible pump was used for purging all of the wells with the exception of DMW-
6, which was purged using a bailer. Purge rates ranged from I to 4 gpm. Field parameters (temperature,
electrical conductivity, pH and turbidity) were monitored during purging, and purging was continued
until the field parameters stabilized and a minimum of three casing volumes of groundwater had been
removed. Purging data were entered on Field Record of Water Sampling Forms (Appendix A). Before
and after purging each well, the submersible pump was decontaminated by steam cleaning, washing in
an AIconox solution, rinsing with fresh water, and final rinsing with distilled water.
URS Corporation
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
I
Tel: 916.679.2000
Fax:916.679.2 900 K:\Wprocess\227364kewIQ04AFP_revOl.doc
