The park is located at 4065
& 4080 Calloway Court, Stockton, California. This letter and the attached drawing provide the
design details for the engineered septic system. A separate letter will follow with an estimate for
the construction inspection and monitoring costs. The design includes features to reduce the
potential build-up of nitrates from the on-site septic system into the ground.
Scope of Work
The scope of work included a review of the SS/NLS report(NOA, 2007), discussions with the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD) staff, review of several technical
articles, and the complete layout, design, and calculations for a septic system. The scope of work
does not include any additional permit fees or report review fees required by the EHD.
General
Based on several discussions with EHD staff, it was discussed that existing engineered septic
systems under permit in San Joaquin County do not reliably achieve nitrate levels below 10
mg/L-N from the outflow of the system. Often, they exceed these goals. Additional nitrate
reduction is thought to occur within the leach field, however; it is difficult to measure.
The EHD has agreed to a proposal to permit and participate in an evaluation for an alternative
design which utilizes aerobic and anaerobic processes contained within the trench similar to all
int,„rmediate sand filter system. This approach was described in an article published in
Environmental Technology (Marselille and Anderson, 2001).
