i 3EIVED RESPIRATORY PROTECTION AUG 10 2005HS130.20 R2 SCOPE AND PURPOSE OFFICSAN JOAUUJN E OF EMERGENCY �: Sierra Chemical Co. has instituted this Respiratory Protection Program in -accordance -with the OSHA Respirator Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The intent of this written program is to define the rules now in effect regarding the requiement and use of respirators for personal protection against airborne contaminants. It is the policy of Sierra Chemical Co. to utilize engineering and administrative controls as the first and second line of defense in protecting it's employees from airborne contaminates. However, there are occasion that respiratory protection may be required The regulations contained herein are not optional for the employee. To comply, the employer considers this policy MANDATORY and a condition of employment for each employee who will be involved in the respirator program. RESPONSIBILITIES Program Administrator: The Regulatory Compliance Group has been designated as the Program Administrator for the respirator protection program for all Sierra Chemical Co. facilities. The Program Administrator's responsibilities include: • Identifying work areas and processes that require respiratory protection. • Selection of respiratory protection options. • Monitoring respirator usage. • Employee training and fit testing. • Maintaining documentation of medical exams and fit testing. • Issuance of respirators. • Ensuring effective maintenance and cleaning of respirators. • Program effectiveness. Supervisors Department supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the respiratory protection program is implemented in their area. The supervisor must be knowledgeable about the program requirements and ensure that it is understood and followed by employees under their charge. Responsibilities include: • Ensuring employees have received training and fit testing. • Ensuring availability of appropriate respirators and accessories. • Aware of tasks requiring respirator use. • Enforcement of respirator usage. • Ensuring that employees have no facial hair that would interfere with a proper seal. • Ensuring respirators are inspected, clean, and ready for use. • Monitoring work area for possible respiratory hazards. • Coordination with the Program Administrator on any respiratory concerns. Employees Each employee has the responsibility to wear their respirator when and where required and in a manner in which they have received training.
