i 3EIVED <br />RESPIRATORY PROTECTION AUG 10 2005HS130.20 R2 <br />SCOPE AND PURPOSE OFFICSAN JOAUUJN E OF EMERGENCY �: <br />Sierra Chemical Co. has instituted this Respiratory Protection Program in -accordance -with <br />the OSHA Respirator Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The intent of this written program is to <br />define the rules now in effect regarding the requiement and use of respirators for personal <br />protection against airborne contaminants. <br />It is the policy of Sierra Chemical Co. to utilize engineering and administrative controls as <br />the first and second line of defense in protecting it's employees from airborne <br />contaminates. However, there are occasion that respiratory protection may be required <br />The regulations contained herein are not optional for the employee. To comply, the <br />employer considers this policy MANDATORY and a condition of employment for each <br />employee who will be involved in the respirator program. <br />RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Program Administrator: <br />The Regulatory Compliance Group has been designated as the Program Administrator for <br />the respirator protection program for all Sierra Chemical Co. facilities. The Program <br />Administrator's responsibilities include: <br />• Identifying work areas and processes that require respiratory protection. <br />• Selection of respiratory protection options. <br />• Monitoring respirator usage. <br />• Employee training and fit testing. <br />• Maintaining documentation of medical exams and fit testing. <br />• Issuance of respirators. <br />• Ensuring effective maintenance and cleaning of respirators. <br />• Program effectiveness. <br />Supervisors <br />Department supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the respiratory protection <br />program is implemented in their area. The supervisor must be knowledgeable about the <br />program requirements and ensure that it is understood and followed by employees under <br />their charge. Responsibilities include: <br />• Ensuring employees have received training and fit testing. <br />• Ensuring availability of appropriate respirators and accessories. <br />• Aware of tasks requiring respirator use. <br />• Enforcement of respirator usage. <br />• Ensuring that employees have no facial hair that would interfere with a proper seal. <br />• Ensuring respirators are inspected, clean, and ready for use. <br />• Monitoring work area for possible respiratory hazards. <br />• Coordination with the Program Administrator on any respiratory concerns. <br />Employees <br />Each employee has the responsibility to wear their respirator when and where required and <br />in a manner in which they have received training.
