LRECEIVED AUG 10 2005 5NN JUN[1UIN COUNTY RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVIGL Medical Exams Medical examination and Pulmonary function testing will be given to each individual in the respirator program (excluding voluntary usage). This exam is required to make sure that the individual required to wear respirators does not have a physical or pulmonary condition which might be exacerbated by airborne contaminants or the use of the respirators themselves. The exam will be given by a doctor, chosen by the employer. The cost for the testing will be borne by Sierra Chemical Co. Respirator Type Only NIOSH approved respirators will be used at Sierra Chemical Co. facilities. The choice between these respirators is dependent upon the airborne contaminant present, the hazardous operation performed and the basis of comfort and ease of obtaining a proper individual fit. This decision rest on the employee. The employee will be given at least two options as to brand of respirator and will be given opportunity to be fit testing on both prior to making his/her decision. NOTE: As of this Policy Revision Date (1/2/03) the following respirators are offered to the employee: North, Full Face, Model: 7600 MSA, Full Face, Model: Advantage 3000 Fit Testing Proper fitting of respirators is essential, if employees are to receive the protection for which this program is designed. Air which passes around the edges of the respirator, rather than through it, is not filtered air. In order to ensure a good face seal, the following rules must be observed. • The employee's face must be clean shaven. • The Respirator and straps must be in place and worn in the appropriate position. To adjust head bands, pull the free ends tight until a comfortable fit is obtained. All Straps must be secure. • To adjust the face piece properly, simply position chin firmly in the chin cup and manually shift rubber mask until the most comfortable position is located. Make final adjustments in the head band and do not break the nasal seal. Modification to the respirator or straps must not be made. • Proper fit must be checked each time the respirator is worn, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Respirators shall not be worn when projections under the face piece prevents a good face seal. • The fitted respirator must be tested using the appropriate qualitative fit tests. Either a isoamyl acetate (Banana Oil) or an "Irritant Fume" will be used to conduct the fit test. 2 December 2003 3 Sierra Chemical Co.
