' Emergency Shut Offs
' During your October fire drill managers and DEAs were required to locate the emergency shut-
offs for utilities at their facility. Make sure you understand how to shut off the utilities if the
situation dictates it. In cases of an earthquake, for example, you will need to check the gas
connection for leaks. You can typically hear the gas hissing or may be able to smell the gas if the
' connection has been compromised. Turn off the gas right away and contact the gas company or
911. Occasionally water lines will break during an earthquake. Check the facility for leaks and
turn off the water at the meter. If your facility has fueling tanks or other above-ground storage
tanks, be sure to also check the connections of the fuel tanks. If there is a fire at the facility, be
sure to turn off the power to the tank.
Emergency Spills
' In the event of an emergency spill, contact 911 right away if needed for prompt assistance. Also
contact PSC's emergency spill reporting line at 877-577-2669. PSC will contact the EHS
Department right away and will dispatch a response team to the site.
' The EHS Department will manage any regulatory reporting associated with the spill.
t
