• 7-11 UST Training Employee_Rev4_2008.doc• RECEIVED
Page 5 of 10 JUN 112009
Any Spill / Leak greater than 25 gallons is an EMERGENCY. CALL 91lbF(04 MARGIN COUNTY
guideline: spills larger than the size of a car) are reportable to the local MERGENCY SERVICES
environmental regulatory agency within 24 hours (Federal standard) of the spill or
overfill. The following information may also need to be reported to the local agency,
if you experience any of the following contact 7-Eleven Dispatch (Dispatch One) at
800-8280711 or open a work request through CHID Online using the 7-Connect
website. Any sign of petroleum products in the surrounding area, i.e. presence of
gasoline vapors around utility lines or sewers.
5. STORMWATER POLLUTION BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES:
There are 2 types of drainage systems; sanitary sewers and storm drains. The storm drain system helps
prevents flooding by carrying excess rainwater away from streets. These storm drain pipes carry water
directly to the ocean or other body of water. Runoff water from gas stations can carry pollutants such as
gasoline, diesel, motor ail, transmission fluids and anti-freeze into those waters unintentionally. Due to
this fact, open water sources are never allowed in the parking areas of our gas stations.
NEVER HOSE DOWN THE GAS STATION PARKING AREAS.
7-Eleven has established the following"Best Management Practices"for each site to use in order to help
prevent stormwater pollution:
1. Cleaning up spills
• Clean up small spills immediately
• Keep dry absorbent materials (X-Sorb or Kitty Litter) on hand at all times for small to
mid-sized spills.
• Contain large spills immediately; block all drains in the parking areas immediately and
contact the proper authorities; create a berm around the spill using absorbent material.
• Provide employee training to be familiar with the station's hazardous materials spills
response plans and emergency procedures.
2. Fueling Vehicles
• Clean-up minor spills with absorbent material (X-Sorb or Kitty Litter) instead of
letting them evaporate.
• Properly dispose of all used absorbent materials, rags, paper towels and gloves in the
Hazardous Material barrel. NEVER DISPOSE OF CONTAMINATED ITEMS IN THE
REGULAR TRASHII
3. Storing and Disposing of Waste
• Store hazardous wastes in proper, sealed containers. Solid and Liquid wastes must
be stored separately.
• Inspect the solid Hazardous Waste Barrel weekly as required by 7-Eleven policy.
Report any degradation of the barrel immediately
4. Parking Areas
• Sweep up trash and dirt from the parking areas. DO NOT HOSE DOWN ANY
PARKING AREAS. All run-off water caused by the station is prohibited.
• Washing of vehicles is not allowed in the parking areas at any time.
• Do not allow customers to change engine fluids in the parking area.
5. Trash Enclosures/Areas
• Keep the lid(s) of the dumpsters closed at all times to help prevent rain water from
building up in the dumpster.
7-11 UST Training Employee_Rev4_2008.doc GVR Confidential
