Charter
Way, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Turkatte:
This correspondence is submitted by Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. (Ground Zero) on behalf of Mr. Mark
Ranuio to present results of confirmation groundwater samples collected from the site and to summarize
well destruction activities. The location of the site is shown on Figure 1. A site plan showing the
locations of wells MWl and MW2 is presented on Figure 2.
Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling
Groundwater samples were collected from wells MW 1 and MW2 on July 22, 1996. The samples were
collected after purging a minimum of 20 gallons of groundwater from each well. Physical parameters
(pH, conductivity, temperature) were monitored during purging and allowed to stabilize prior to
collecting samples. No petroleum odors were noticeable during purging. Purged groundwater was
temporarily contained in DOT approved 55 -gallon drums pending analytical results. Field purge logs
are included in Attachment A.
Groundwater samples were transported to Argon Labs (DHS #1873) under chain of custody and
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes
(BTEX), methyl -t -butyl -ether (MTBE), and lead using appropriate EPA methods. No analytes were
detected above the respective detection limits. Consequently, the contained purgewater was discharged
to the surface and allowed to evaporate. Laboratory reports are included in Attachment B.
On July 26, 1996, top of casing elevations in wells MW 1 and MW2 were surveyed for vertical control
and depth to groundwater was measured. Groundwater beneath the site was encountered at a depth of
groundze\lane\ranuio.add
