The first of these areas was that occupied by the
trench and large paved lot described above. Here, (composite)
Soil Sample #1A -D revealed the presence of organochlorine
pesticides 41-f-'=5—DE and 4,4 -DDT at 25 parts per billion (ppb)
and 24 parts per billion respectively. These results are well
below the 1.0 part per million level frequently referenced as
the "action level" for DDT, DDD, or DDE in soil.
The second point of low level contamination was at VTB-3 where
a sample of groundwater was acquired at a depth of tVenfy feet
below grade. Analytical method EPA 8010 revealed the presence
of the halogenated volatile organic compounds methylene chloride
(at 1.7 ppb) and 1,1,1 -trichloroethane (at 2.4 ppb). The State
- of California Department of Health Services Recommended Drinking
Water Action Level is 40.0 ppb for methylene chloride and 200.0
ppb for 1,1,1 -trichloroethane.
As indicated within Chart I and the attached analytical data,
significant gasoline contamination of soil was found to exist
in the area of the abandoned underground fuel storage tanks
- located adjacent to Bill's Bait Shop.
