On August 30, 1989, exploratory soil borings VTB-11 and VTB-
12 were advanced under the direction of Walter Floyd, Geologist,
and Helen Mawhinney, Environmental Specialist, by staff of
Spectrum Exploration, Inc. of Stockton, California utilizing
a four-wheel drive drill rig equipped with an 8" outside
diameter, hollow stem auger. A soil sample was acquired from
VTB-11 using a brass tube placed within a California Modified
Split Spoon Sampler driven through the hollow stem of the
drilling auger(s) and handled in the manner previously described.
Groundwater was encountered at a depth of 25' in VTB-11 and
28' in VTB-12. Groundwater samples were acquired from each
boring as described above. Borings VTB-11 and VTB-12 were
also grouted with a Portland cement -5% bentonite mix.
r
From August 15, 1989 through August 30, 1989, all soil and/or
groundwater samples acquired on site were analyzed for the
y constituents listed within Chart I using an uncertified liquid
to liquid extraction process. Based upon the results of these
analyses and upon observations made on site, selected samples
also as referenced in Chart 1 were then transported under chain
of custody to Chromalab, Inc., a certified hazardous waste
analytical laboratory for analysis for Total Petroleum Hydro-
carbons as Gasoline (TPH-G) using EPA Methods 5030/8015, and
Halogenated Volatile Organics using EPA Methods 5030/8010.
The results of field analyses and certified analyses are outlined
in the following chart:
CHART I
CERTIFIED ANALYTICAL RESULTS:
Sample#
Material
Depth
TPH-G TPH-D
(ppm) (Ppm)
Halogenated
Compounds
VTB-1
soil
13.5'
TPH-G- -----
-----
1116 ppm
Benzene-
N.D.
Toluene -
2330 ppb
Total Xylenes -
4790 ppb
Ethylbenzene-
3830 ppb
VTB-4
water
25'
N.D.
