IMPLEMENTATION <br /> The provisions of this contingency plan will be carried out immediately <br /> whenever there is a fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste which <br /> could threaten human health or the environment. <br /> ARRANGEMENTS WITH LOCAL EMERGENCY AGENCIES <br /> A letter has been sent to the following emergency response agencies <br /> outlining their response role in the event of fire, explosion, or release of <br /> hazardous waste. The letter provides a brief overview of the properties of <br /> hazardous waste potentially generated due to maintenance or ongoing <br /> terminal operations and properties of hazardous waste potentially generated <br /> in the event of a spill/release of hydrocarbons. Copies of these letters are <br /> contained in the HAZWOPER Plan. <br /> RESPONSE ROLES <br /> • Fire Department: Evaluate the situation and determine if evacuation <br /> is necessary and if assistance is needed. Determine proper course of <br /> action and coordinate efforts to contain and control the emergency. <br /> • Police Department: To assist the Fire Department and provide traffic <br /> control, if necessary during the emergency. <br /> • Hospital: To provide 24-hour emergency medical service. <br /> • Hazardous Waste Clean-up Contractors: To provide 24-hour <br /> emergency response crews who will provide containment, clean-up, <br /> and disposal services of hazardous waste, as needed. <br />
