t
V
r
pecificatiQn_2g1025-01
conductivity"in an approach directly analogous to groundwater pumping tests(i.e.
a Theis approach using transicnt drawdowns and/or a Jacobs approach using
steady-state drawdowns). The storage coefficient will also be estimated from the
transient pressure drawdown data.
4.9 The estimate of gas conductivity and storage coefficient will allow evaluation of
a zone of influence for the extraction well. This value would allow design of a
system that would capture the VOC vapor originating from the site. The final
extraction-well design will be evaluated using analytical and/or numerical models
to predict the overall effectiveness of the remediation strategy.
i .
4,10 Vapor analysis during pilot testing would be achieved by collection of samples
from the sample ports described above using calibrated air sample pumps, A
measured sample volume would be collected on a carbon trap, in a tedlar bag,
or in a vacuum canister using NIOSH guidelines. The carbon trap would be
analyzed for TPH,and BTXE by EPA Methods 8015M and 8020M. The samples
may be supplemented with Draeger, or equivalent, gas detector tubes for
f ' Benzene. The sampling plan would be as follows:
r., Inlet Bed #1 Outlet Bed #1 Outlet Bed #2
is
Startup (3) initially, and at 2hr 2/day (1) 2 da 2
(Day 1) intervals for 4hr(1)
2/
y( )
Week 1 1/day (i) 1/day (1) 1/day (2)
Weeks 2, 3 1/week 1/week 1/week
(if necessary)
Notes: (1). Additional samples may be collected and analyzed during the first three
{}{ ` days of operation.
ks
(2) Samples would not be analyzed unless the first bed outlet samples or the
online OVM readings indicate Stage 1 breakthrough has occurred.
(3) Surge tests would be conducted as Startup tests.
4.11 Efficiency and adequacy of vapor extraction as a remedial alternative would be
evaluated after the pilot test from two perspectives: 1) whether the zone of
influence is adequate to place wells and extract vapors from beneath the area,
and 2) whether the amount of discharged VOC vzpor and its adsorption are
adequate. If either perspective is not adequate, then the remedial activities will
be arnended and retested, if necessary.
B-4 AEMEb1ATION
SEAYICES, INC.
