The purpose of bench -scale testing is to
evaluate the effects of hydrogen peroxide injection into the aquifer. The bench -scale study
has been proposed in order to obtain approval by the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB) to begin hydrogen peroxide injection as described in SECOR's Hydrogen
Peroxide Injection Work Plan, dated April 14, 2004. This Work Plan has been prepared in
response to a request by the RWQCB in their letter, dated May 13, 2004 (Attachment 1).
This Work Plan includes a brief site description, scope of work, and schedule.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The subject site is a former Chevron branded service station located at 301 West Kettleman
Lane in Lodi, California (Figures 1 and 2). Former facilities included four service bays,
three dispenser islands, one sales kiosk, three 10,000 -gallon gasoline underground storage
tanks (LISTS), one 1,000 -gallon used -oil UST, one 550 -gallon previously abandoned used -
oil UST, and one hydraulic hoist. A Prime Shine Express Car Wash and Auto Lubrication
Center is currently operated at the site. The area surrounding the site is used and zoned
for mixed commercial and residential use. Topography in the area of the site is relatively
flat, with an elevation of approximately 45 feet above mean sea level (msl). The nearest
receptor is a City of Lodi Municipal Well 12 (Well 12) located approximately 350 feet
downgradient from the site.
The station has been actively remediated using groundwater extraction (GWE) and soil
vapor extraction (SVE) for a period of approximately four years. Influent SVE
concentrations of hydrocarbons were non -detect and mass removal reached asymptotic
levels prior to shutdown of the SVE system in 2003. The GWE system is currently
operating and maintaining hydraulic control of dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons remaining
onsite including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE).
I:\Chevron\95775\REPORTS\2004\Bench Scale Study(Mod).doc
