Between March 29 and June 25, 2002, the GWE system discharged a total of 1,206,005
gallons of treated groundwater over a period of 88 days (Table 4). As of June 25, 2002, the
GWE system has treated a total of 3,161,828 gallons. Calculated discharge rates during the
2Q02 monitoring period ranged from 6.59 to 10.45 gallons per minute (gpm).
During the 2Q02 the system extracted an estimated 0.3 pounds of TPHg, 0.003 pounds of
benzene, and 1.2 pounds of MtBE. To date, the system has extracted approximately 7.8
pounds of TPHg, 0.2 pounds of benzene, and 83.8 pounds of MtBE. Plots of GWE system
mass removal trends and influent groundwater TPHg, benzene, and MtBE concentrations
versus time are shown on Figures 6 and 7, respectively.
3.2 Soil Vapor Extraction System
The Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) system is comprised of four vapor wells (VE -1 through
VE -4), connected by mechanical piping to a 5 horsepower (hp) positive -displacement blower,
and a catalytic oxidizer. Vapors from the soil are removed under vacuum from the blower
and petroleum hydrocarbons in these vapors are destroyed by a catalytic oxidizer, prior to
discharging the air stream to the atmosphere. The operation of the SVE system is permitted
by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD).
To assess effectiveness of the SVE, process samples were collected once per month from the
vapor stream before (NFL) and after (EFFL) the catalytic oxidizer. Each sample was
analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and MtBE. Maximum concentrations of detected constituents are
presented below.
I:IChevron1957751Periodic Monitoring\Quarterly Progress Reports1200212nd Quarter -2002 Progress Report.doc
