GWE and SVE
systems were initiated on July 3, 2000. A brief description and performance evaluation of the
remedial system during the Second Quarter 2001 are presented below.
GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM
Samples were collected from the influent port, midpoint 1 (between carbon vessels A and B),
midpoint 2 (between carbon vessels B and C), and the effluent port weekly between March
28 and June 27, 2001. During these sampling events, influent (INFL), midpoint 1 (MID -1),
midpoint 2 (MID -2), and effluent (EFFL) samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethyl -benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX
compounds), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di -isopropyl
ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ELBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethanol,
methanol, ethylene dibromide (EDB), and 1,2-dicholoethane (1,2 -DCA). Maximum
concentrations of detected constituents are presented below. Current and historical analytical
information is presented as Table 1.
Sampling
Constituent (µg/l)
Port
TPHg
MtBE
TBA
EtBE
TAME
Ethanol
Methanol
INFL
120
2,400
85
110
24
95
ND
MID -1
ND
44
ND
ND
ND
17
80
MID -2
ND
ND
ND
ND
ND
27
80
EFFL
ND
ND
ND
ND
ND
21
94
Explanations
ND = Not Detected above method detection limits
During the Second Quarter 2 00 1, the GWE system discharged a total of 1,114,394 gallons of
treated groundwater. As of June 27, 2001, the GWE system has treated a total of 2,558,436
gallons. Calculated discharge rates during the Second Quarter ranged from 8.58 to 6.73
gallons per minute (gpm).
During the Second Quarter the system extracted approximately 1.34 pounds of TPHg, 0.013
pounds of benzene, and 12.54 pounds of MtBE. To date, the system has extracted
IAChevron19577510&M12ndQuarter 2001120&MROI .doc
