rSoil Sampling and Analysis
U
Soil samples selected for logging and analysis were collected at 5 -foot intervals using a
California -modified split -spoon sampler Capillary fringe samples (collected at approximately
55 feet bgs) were selected for analysis from monitoring wells MW -513, MW -813, MW -I OA and
B, MW I IA and B, MW -12A and B, MW -13, and MW -14 In addition, samples collected at 90
feet bgs were submitted for analysis to monitoring wells MW -513, MW -813, and MW -i 1 B and
at 65 feet bgs in monitoring well MW -14
Hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates were not reported in soil samples collected from monitoring
wells MW -513, MW -813, MW -1 OA and B, MW 11A and B, MW -12A and B, and MW -13
MtBE was reported at a concentration of 0 189 mg/kg in the sample collected from 65 feet bgs
in monitoring well MW -14 Table 2 presents the soil analytical results Analytical data sheets
for soil samples are included in Attachment E
Groundwater Monitoring Well Development, Sampling, Analysis and Surveying
On June 23, 2000, the newly constructed monitoring wells were developed and sampled by a
SECOR environmental technician Field and laboratory procedures are included as Attachment
F Depth to groundwater varies between 55 to 57 feet bgs in shallow wells screened from 55 to
65 feet bgs and between 56 to 59 feet bgs in deeper wells screened from 85 to 90 feet bgs The
shallow water -bearing zone, as monitored by monitoring wells MW -1 through MW -5A, MW -6
through MW -8A, MW -9, MW- IOA, MW -I IA, MW -12A, MW -13, and MW -14, has an
approximate gradient of 0 005 with a flow direction to the west The deeper water -bearing
zone, as monitored by monitoring wells MW -513, MW -813, MW- IOB, MW -1 IB, and MW -12B,
has an approximate gradient of 0 003 with a flow direction to the southwest
TPHg and benzene, toluene, ethyl -benzene, and xylenes (BTEX compounds) were not detected
in groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells MW -513, MW -813, MW -1 OA and B,
MW -11A and B, MW -12A and B and, MW -13 (Table 3) Benzene was detected in monitoring
well MW -14 at a reported concentration of 102 ug/l MtBE was detected in monitoring wells
MW -513, MW- 1OB, and MW -14 at reported concentrations of 160, 5 2, and 1,100 ug/1,
respectively ETBE was detected in monitoring wells MW -513 and MW -14 at concentrations
of 14 and 120 ug/l, respectively Ethanol was detected in monitoring wells MW -10B and MW -
12B at reported concentrations of 1,400 and 2,000 ug/l, respectively Analytical data sheets for
groundwater samples are included in Attachment G Groundwater isoconcentration maps are
presented as Figures 6, 7, and 8
All newly installed wells were surveyed relative to mean sea level by Baumbach & Piazza (a
California licensed surveyor) Attachment H contains a letter from the surveyor, dated July 14
2000, which details the elevations of the newly installed wells
