• Discharge Report for August 2000, Permit #295
September 19, 2000
•
Summary of GWS Operation:
Samples were collected from the influent port, midpoint 1 (between the first and second carbon vessels),
midpoint 2 (between the second and third carbon vessels) and effluent sample ports on August 3, 10, 16, 18,
23 and 31, 2000. During these sampling events, detectable influent TPHg concentrations fluctuated from
3,480 to 18,000 parts per billion (ppb), benzene concentrations fluctuated from 535 to 1,300 ppb, and methyl
tert-butyl ether (MtBE) concentrations fluctuated from 2630,000 to 330,000 ppb. Samples were analyzed
by Sequoia Analytical (ELAP #1271, 1624 and 2360) and Kiff Analytical LLC (ELAP #2236). Analytical
data are summarized in Table 1.
During the period from July 26 to August 31, 2000, the GWS treated and discharged a total 3,659 gallons
over a period of 32 days. The GWS has treated a total of 8,398 gallons during 55 days of operation since
startup on duly 3, 2000. Calculated discharge rates during the August monitoring period ranged from 0,06
to 0.13 gallons per minute. The system has extracted approximately 0.98 pounds (lb) of TPHg, 0.091 lb of
benzene and 17.9 lb of MtBE. GWE operational data are summarized in Table 2.
Certification
I certify under penalty of law that this document and all attachments were prepared under my direction or
supervision in accordance with a system designed to assure that qualified personnel properly gather and
evaluate the information submitted. Based on my inquiry of the person or persons who manage the system,
or the persons directly responsible for gathering the information, the information submitted is, to the best
of my knowledge and belief, true, accurate and complete. I am aware that there significant penalties for
submitting false information, including the possibility of fine and imprisonment for knowing violations.
Planned Activities
GR will continue to operate the GWS on behalf of Chevron. Weekly sampling of the system will be
performed each Wednesday at 10:00 am, unless 48-hour notification is given. Algae appears to be growing
on the pumping equipment, and may also be growing in the sandpack and well screens. GR will attempt to
enhance the pumping rate from well EX -1 by treating the well with hydrogen peroxide during September
2000.
At the direction of Chevron and Secor international, GR has initiated modification of the GWS to allow for
discharge from additional wel Is. Secor will evaluate influence from pumping of wells MW -13 and MW -14.
Depending on the results of this evaluation, these wells may added to the GWS.
346408.07 2
