• 2 0 SCOPE OF WORK
The objectives of the project included investigating the extent of impacted soil and groundwater
associated with the former USTs and establishing a groundwater monitoring capability at the site
To achieve the project objectives, the following four tasks were completed
1 Project Planning
2 Soil and Groundwater-Grab Sampling and Analysis
3 Monitoring Well Installation, Development, Sampling and Analysis
4 Environmental Site Investigation Report
21 Protect Planning
The project planning task included permitting, notifications and an underground utility survey
To perform the proposed scope of work, a drilling permit (#015590) was obtained from PHS/EHD
Since all of the drilling was conducted on-site, neither off-site access agreements nor
encroachment permits were required
On May 26, 1998, Underground Service Alert was notified to perform a utility clearance inspection
(USA Ticket#131447) PHS/EHD was also notified so that field inspections could be scheduled
Prior to drilling, the concrete surface at 3 locations was cored by Cal-West Concrete Conng, Inc
(License#320029) of Manteca, California The concrete core diameter was 12 inches and the
concrete thickness ranged from 4 to 7 inches
22 Soil and Groundwater-Grab Sampling and Analysis
On May 28 and 29, 1998, six soil borings were drilled at the site to investigate the lateral and
vertical extent of impacted soil and the lateral extent of impacted groundwater The soil borings
were drilled with a truck-mounted drill rig, equipped with 6 and 8-inch diameter hollow stem augers
Three of the 6 soil borings (SB-5, SB-6 and SB-7) were drilled using the 6-inch diameter augers
From these soil bonngs, sod and groundwater-grab samples were collected The other three soil
borings were drilled with the 8-inch diameter augers and were converted into groundwater
monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3) From these borings soil samples were collected
Groundwater was sampled from the monitoring wells following well construction and development
The locations of the soil borings and monitoring wells are shown on Figure 2
4
