• 2 2 1 Soil Sampling and Analysis
During drilling, soil samples were collected from each soil boring at 5-foot intervals using a modified
California split-spoon sampler lined with brass sleeves A field geologist logged all soil samples for
hydrogeologic and lithologic characteristics according to the Unified Sod Classification System and
screened each sample for any hydrocarbon vapors using an organic vapor monitor, equipped with a
photoionization detector (PID) The soil boring for MW-2 was continuously cored for detailed
logging and soil sampling Soil samples from the continuously cored soil boring were collected by
manually filling a brass sleeve with the cored soil The sod boring and monitoring well logs are
included as Appendix A
Two soil samples from each of the 6 soil borings were selected for laboratory analysis The soil
sample selection was reviewed with PHSIEHD, prior to laboratory submittal The selected soil
samples were packaged in an iced cooler and transported under chain-of-custody documentation to
American Environmental Network (AEN), a state of California-certified hazardous waste testing
laboratory (DOHS #1172) AEN analyzed each of the soil samples on a standard turn-around time
of 7 working days for TPH-as-diesel, TPH-as-gasoline, BTEX and MTBE by Modified EPA Methods
8015 and 8020 AEN also analyzed 2 of the soil samples for Total Organic Carbon and 2 of the soil
samples for Total Lead
• Two soil samples were also analyzed for physical parameters by BSK &Associates (BSK) BSK
tested the sod samples for permeability, porosity, dry bulk density and moisture
2 2 2 Groundwater-Grab Sampling and Analysis
At the top of the groundwater-bearing zone in each of the three, 6-inch diameter soil borings (SB-5,
SB-6 and SB-7), a push driven groundwater sampling device (Hydropuncho) was deployed From
the Hydropuncho, groundwater-gran samples were collected using a bailer
Each of the groundwater-grab samples were analyzed by AEN on a standard turn-around time 7
working days for TPH-as-diesel, TPH-as-gasoline, BTEX and MTBE by Modified EPA Methods
8015 and 8020
Fallowing the groundwater-grab sampling, each of the 3 soil borings not to be converted to
monitoring wells (SB-5, SB-6 and SB-7) was sealed with neat cement, placed by the tremae method
