 Clayton
`°/jGC.4)LP SERy4C[s
Mr. Mike Infurna Page 2
San Joaquin County Clayton Project No. 70-05319
August 2,2004
SCOPE OF WORK
The initial Scope of Work includes collecting a group of soil samples to confirm whether
the gasoline migrated beyond the sidewalls and depth of the current excavation. In the
event that soil contamination is found beyond the current excavation, Clayton will
recommend removing additional soil and will collect a second set of confirmation
samples. If deeper contamination is present, the Hospital and Clayton will also determine
whether groundwater samples are necessary.
TASK 1: PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
Clayton has prepared a Site-specific Safety and Health Plan(SSHP)to reflect the
fieldwork proposed at the subject property (Attachment 1). The SSHP details the work to
be performed, safety precautions, emergency response procedures, nearest hospital
information, and onsite personnel responsible for managing emergency situations.
Clayton has also completed the required drilling permit application and has attached the
application with the fee of$89.00 made payable to the County.
TASK 2: FIELD ACTIVITIES
The field activities will consist of soil sampling. The soil samples will be collected using
shovels, brass tubes, trowels, and a hand auger. Using a hand auger, Clayton will collect
soil samples from the center of the excavation. A shallow soil boring, SB-1,will be
advanced at this location to approximately 3 feet below the bottom of the excavation
(BE). Samples from the boring will be collected at approximately 6 inches BE and 3 feet
BE. Clayton will collect a soil sample from each of the excavation sidewalls(samples
SS 1 through SS4)by pounding a brass tube into the center of each sidewall,at
approximately 18 inches below the ground surface(bgs).
In addition, up to four shallow soil borings(SB-2 to SB-5)will be advanced up to 10 feet
away from each of the excavation sidewalls. These borings will be advanced to total
depths of approximately 4 feet bgs. Soil samples will be collected at approximately 1 and
4 feet bgs. The soil samples will be collected at the selected depths using a drive hammer
sampler holding a brass sample tube. The drive hammer will be used to drive the sampler
into the soil filling the brass tubes. When full, the brass tubes will be extracted from the
sampler. Upon completion of the soil sampling, the shallow soil borings will be
backfilled with neat cement.
Clayton will open the drums containing the impacted soil and collect a discrete soil
sample from each drum, S-1 through S-5 using new brass tubes. After the samples are
collected, the drums will be closed and left onsite pending the results of the laboratory
analyses.
SAESTROJECTS\2005\05319 SJ County\Workp1m.dm
