e Clayton
z f. oup sift"c i
Mr. Mike Infurna Page 3
San Joaquin County Clayton Project No. 70-05319
August 2, 2004
The brass tubes will be sealed using TeflonTM sheets and plastic end caps. The filled
tubes will then be labeled and placed into a chilled cooler.
During the field activities, Clayton will document the sample locations and observations
to assist with future recommendations and identifying locations where additional soil
may need to be excavated. A photo-ionization device(PID) or organic vapor monitor
(OVM)will be used in the field to identify potential soil hot spots, if applicable. Clayton
will collect samples from hot spots to identify the worst-case contamination present.
TASK 3: LABORATORY ANALYSIS
The soil samples will be transferred under formal chain-of-custody documentation to a
State of California-certified laboratory for analysis. Upon receipt at the laboratory, lab
personnel will composite the five soil discrete drum soil samples together prior to
analysis. Initially, the sidewall samples, the shallow soil sample from boring SB-1, and
the composite soil sample from the soil drums will be analyzed for the following
constituents:
• EPA Method 8260B for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g); benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene(BTEX),and five fuel oxygenates, including
MTBE.
The remaining soil samples will be put on hold by the laboratory pending the results of
the analyses. If the chemicals are detected or significant contamination is present,
Clayton and the Hospital will select the additional samples to be analyzed.
TASK 4: REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of the above Tasks,Clayton will prepare a written report documenting
the work performed and our findings, conclusions, and recommendations. We will
include a diagram showing the sample locations.
Clayton appreciates the opportunity to submit this workplan to you. If you have any
questions or need additional information, please contact me at(925)426.2681.
SAESTROJECTS\2005\05319 SJ Co=ty\Workp1=.dm
