If deeper contamination is present,the
Hospital and Clayton will also determine whether groundwater samples are necessary.
SCOPE OF WORK
The proposed scope of work is based on the assumptions below.
• Clayton will collect up to twelve samples during two visits to the site, six samples per
visit. The shallow depth of the excavation will allow us to collect the samples using a
hand auger. A GeoProbe or similar drilling equipment will not be required. Samples
will be collected on each sidewall and the bottom of the excavation. In addition,
Clayton will collect one composite sample from the 55-gallon drums that may be
used to characterize the excavated soil for disposal.
• We will analyze the samples using EPA Method 8260B for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g);benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene, and xylene
(BTEX), and five fuel oxygenates, including MTBE. The analyses will be provided
using a standard turnaround time with no rush charges. The samples will be analyzed
by STL, a state-certified laboratory, located near our office in Pleasanton,California.
• The Hospital will be able to provide a site plan that will be used in the report. We
would prefer to receive an electronic file either in AutoCAD or CorelDraw if
available.
• The Hospital will be able to identify any underground utilities in the area of the
sampling and therefore use of a utility locator will not be required. Since shallow
hand augering will be completed,we have assumed an excavation permit will not be
required by neither the County nor the City for the initial sample event. If a permit is
required at a later date, Clayton will discuss the additional costs with the Hospital and
obtain authorization prior to proceeding.
The proposed scope of work consists of four Tasks, including pre-field activities, field
activities, laboratory analysis, and project management/report preparation. These Tasks
are described in the following subsections.
TASK 1: PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
Clayton will prepare a Site-specific Safety and Health Plan(SSHP)to reflect the
fieldwork proposed at the subject property. The SSHP will detail the work to be
performed, safety precautions, emergency response procedures, nearest hospital
information, and onsite personnel responsible for managing emergency situations.
SAESTroposals\2004\04.066 San Joaquin County.dm
