This SOP includes the Job Hazard Analysis <br /> LOCATION: The sodium hypochlorite bulk tank and pumps are located directly to the east behind <br /> the administration building. <br /> FREQUENCY AND REPORTING: The work performed will be on an emergency basis. <br /> Documentation should be kept in the operator log. <br /> PERSONNEL NEEDED: One (1) operator is needed to perform this task <br /> EQUIPMENT & MATERIAL NEEDED: A submersible pump, one garden hose, two 270 gallon <br /> totes. <br /> SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS: This cleanup procedure exposes the operator to potential <br /> exposure to sodium hypochlorite. The operator performing this task should always use <br /> necessary ppe, i.e. rubber gloves, safety goggles, face shield, long sleeve shirt, chemical apron. <br /> PROCEDURE: <br /> 1. Upon discovering a leak or a spill in the tubing or tanks turn the dosing pumps to off and <br /> isolate each of the tanks from the piping to the pumps to prevent any additional spillage. <br /> 2. Pump the Sodium Hypochlorite in the containment area into a clean tote. Allow time for <br /> contaminates to settle out. Pump the clean solution back into the tank. Any remaining <br /> contaminated solute drain into the septage receiving station. <br /> 3. Rinse out containment area and pump the rinse water into the second tote. Rinse both totes <br /> into the septage receiving station. <br /> 4. Write a work order and inform maintenance of the leak. <br />
