3.0 Previous Work, Lateral Extent
3.1 General
ti... On December 1, 1994 TVG and CFM co-financed sampling, to determine lateral extent
of the soil contamination. Linda Turkatte, Public Health Services, San Joaquin County,
was present during the sampling. This work was supervised by Mr. Ray Kablanow,
registered geologist in the State of California.
Field OVM readings were used to direct the scope of the sampling. The intent was that
if a positive OVM reading was encountered during field sampling, an additional boring
would be developed. Borings would be developed at greater and greater lateral
distance from the excavation until a clear OVM reading was achieved. On December 1,
1994 all OVM readings taken during sampling were negative, (see Appendix "Borehole
Logs"). With negative field results the scope of the investigation was limited to four
borings, (see "Figure 1 site Map").
3.2 Location and Depth
Samples were collected with an AMS Soil Gas Probe, equipped with the optional Soil
Recovery Probe. The probe was driven with an electric rotary hammer. A professional
geologist, Tim McDonald, from Geological Techniques was present at the site to
oversee the sampling. Samples were secured at four points surrounding the
excavation site, [i.e. on both ends and either side of the excavation hole, in the native
soil]. Samples were secured approximately three feet away from the original
excavation at three depths at 17, 19, and 27 feet, {see Figure 1 "Site Map"}.
3.3 Sample Handling
Samples were field checked with an OVM, sealed, logged under chain of custody,
refrigerated, and transported to an independent certified lab.
3.4 Soil Analytical Results
3.4.1 Table 2
"Methods of analysis used, and Detection Limits"
Analyte Method Detection limit mg/kg
Gasoline 801T— 2.0
Hylkocarbons
Benzene 8020 .002
Ethyl Benzene 8020 .002
Toluene 8020 .002
X Lene 8020 .002
Page 3
