The soil boring logs from Beta Associates, the May 1993 investigation, and the
December 1994 investigation, describe the native soil; (see Appendix Boring Logs).
The upper soil, from surface to approximately eighteen feet, is generally clay containing
varying portions of silt and sand. From approximately 18.4 feet to approximately 25
feet there is a silty sand layer. From approximately 25 feet to 29 feet there is a clayey
sand. From approximately 29 to 35 feet there is a very stiff clayey silt. From
approximately 35 to 43 feet there is a stiff silty clay. From approximately 43 feet to the
bottom of the beta boring @55 feet there is silty sand. Beta encountered water in the
sand layer at approximately 43 to 55 feet.
4.2 Extent of Contamination
The boring performed in May of 1993 shows soil vertical contamination extent;
[contamination commencing at approximately 16.5 feet and ending at approximately 27
feet]. Further investigation performed in December of 1994 indicates the contamination
has not migrated laterally beyond the limits of the area directly beneath the original
tank excavation.
Page 4
