H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOC'6rXTES
Mr. Tom Vogel
May 20, 1986
Page two
IV. FIELD ACTIVITIES
The field investigation performed at the site included soil
sampling and litholog.ic logging.
One exploratory- boring was drilled to a depth of 26 feet on
the subject property on May 27, 1986. A Mobile B-24 skid-
mounted drill rig, equipped with 6-inch diameter free flight
auger, was used for the soil boring.
During the drilling, a Kleinfelder geologist classified the
subsurface soils, collected soil samples, and logged the
borehole. A description of the soils encountered are
presented on Plate No. 2 , with a copy of the Unified Soil
Classification System (used to identify the soil) included
as Plate No. 3 .
The exploratory boring drilled at the site on May 27, 1986
was located in a previously bored hole. The previous boring V3K0_X_
was advanced to a depth of 17 feet and then, we assume, f --
backfilled with the drill cuttings. Therefore, the soils
encountered during the first 17 feet of our boring,
conducted May 27, 1986, are not indicative of the
surrounding soil stratification. The soils encountered
beyond the 17 foot depth consisted of light yellow brown and
light grey brown clay silts and silty clay.
Soil samples were extracted at 20 feet and 25 feet. A 2-
inch I .D. Modified Porter Sampler, containing 6-inch brass
liners, was used to collect the samples. The bottom tube
was covered with aluminum foil, sealed with plastic caps,
and placed in an ice cooler for transport under chain-of--
custody.
V. FINDINGS
Soil samples were submitted to a California Certified
Laboratory for analyses. The laboratory results indicate
"&t----n9 petroleum hydrocarbons were detected at or above a
20 detection limit . In addition, the soils observed by
our geologist in the field did not exhibit any diesel odor
or fluid cut. A copy of the laboratory results are in the
appendix of this report.
EE
