1 <br /> Report on Subsurface Environmental Exploration (Soil Borings) Page 8 <br /> A & M Market, 4579 East Acampo Road, Acampo, California November 9, 1992 <br /> Quorum Environmental Consultants, Inc , Project 92-120-2 <br /> • B-4 was sited near the southwest corner of the tank cavity approximately 10 <br /> feet south of the south wall It was advanced to 41-112 feet deep The <br /> sample from 15 feet deep had a slightly noticeable odor to the observers but <br /> did not register any reading on the PID None of the other samples from this <br /> boring had either noticeable or measurable indications of hydrocarbons <br /> • B-5 was added to the drilling program when samples from B-1 and B-2 <br /> exhibited apparent hydrocarbon odors This boring was located 12 feet west <br /> ' of B-2 and was advanced to 26-1/2 feet deep None of the samples from <br /> this boring had either noticeable or measurable indications of hydrocarbons <br /> ' During drilling, an engineer described the soil encountered in the borings in accordance <br /> with the Unified Soil Classification System,which is illustrated on Figure 4 Tile sediments <br /> encountered during drilling are also described on the Logs of Borings, Figures 5 through <br /> 9 Soil samples were collected at 5-foot-deep intervals from the ground surface to the <br /> ' total depths of the borings Auger cuttings were placed on the stockpile at the site They <br /> remain the responsibility of Sav-Mor Oil Co The borings were backfilled with cement <br /> grout that was tremied into the borings <br /> • The sediments encountered in the bonngs generally consisted of interbedded sand,sandy <br /> silt, and clayey silt They were typically brown to reddish and orangish brown with some <br /> grey and were dry to damp. The sand layers consisted of fine- to medium-grained sand <br /> Ground water was not encountered in the borings. <br /> 4.3 Collection of Samples from Soil Stockpile <br /> Soil that was excavated in September from the base of the east side of the tank cavity <br /> and from the two test pits in the west side of the base of the tank cavity was spread on <br /> ' plastic at the back (west side) of the market building for aeration Approximately 50 cubic <br /> yards of soil were in the stockpile, and two soil samples were collected for analysis after <br /> compositing by the laboratory Mr Collins also observed Quorum's collection of these <br /> samples <br />
