Report on Subsurface Environmental Exploration (Soil Borings) Page 9
A & M Market, 4579 East Acampo Road, Acampo, California November 9, 1992
Quorum Environmental Consultants, Inc , Project 92-120-2
' 5.0 SELECTION OF SAMPLES FOR ANALYSIS AND DESCRIPTION OF
LABORATORY ANALYSES AND RESULTS
i
5.1 Selection of Soil Samples for Laboratory Analysis
Soil samples with any apparent hydrocarbons, whether by odors noticeable to observers
or by PID readings, were selected from bonngs B-1 through B-5 for testing in the chemical
laboratory These were from the 15-, 20-, or 25-foot-deep sampling intervals without
exception In addition, the soil sample from the last sample interval :n each boring was
' analyzed For boring B-5, in which there were no indications of hydrocarbons in any of
the samples, the samples that were selected for analysis were from the 20- and 25-foot-
deep sampling intervals in which indications of hydrocarbons were present in samples
' from other borings The 25-foot-deep sample also represented the bottom of this boring
(B-5)
5.2 Analytical Methods and Results
' The soil samples were submitted to the laboratory for analysis for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg)and for the hydrocarbon constituents benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and total xylenes The test methods used were Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Methods 5030 and TPH LUFT with 8020 for BTEX distinction Moble
Chem Labs Inc of Martinez, California, which is certified by the State of California to
perform the specified tests, performed the chemical analyses for TPHg and BTEX The
results of the chemical analyses are presented in Table 2 The Chain-of-Custody Records
and the analytical reports from the laboratory are included in Appendix D
' Results of analyses on the soil samples showed that hydrocarbons were not found within
the laboratory detection limits in any of the samples analyzed from ether the borings or
the stockpile
