TREADWELL & ROLLO
sample will be delivered to the laboratory, unpreserved, the same day as sampling
accomparned by a request for filtration and preservation
2.3 Sample Containers and Volumes
The sample containers will be either glass or plastic and will be obtained from a
state-certified hazardous waste laboratory or other approved source Separate containers
will be required for specific groups of analytes in accordance with EPA methods (40
CFR Part 136)
2.4 Sample Labelling
Sample containers, either glass or plastic, will be labelled with self-adhesive, preprinted
tags with the following information
o Project number
o Sample number
o Sample location (well number, etc )
o Date and time samples were obtained
o Treatment (preservative added, filtered, etc }
o Initials of sample collector
Sample tags shall be filled out using waterproof ink
2.5 Sample Preservation and Storage
The proper preservation and storage of water samples is dependent on the chemical
constituents to be analyzed, and will therefore be discussed with the analytical laboratory
prior to sample collection These requirements will be adhered to in the preservation
and storage of water samples
2.6 Quality Control Samples
In order to document the precision and accuracy of analytical data generated by the
subcontracted state-certified hazardous waste laboratory, one or more of the following
procedures will be employed periodically-
A.
eriodicallyA. Blind D1112ligilte Smple - A double volume of water will be collected and then
divided into identical containers that are given different location identification
names or sample numbers These numbers will be recorded on a data sheet for
later reference. Both samples will be submitted to the laboratory for identical
analyses and will then serve as a way of measuring analytical precision as well as
a way of confirming results on a certain sample Field duplicates can also be
collected as splits and sent to different laboratories Duplicate samples will be
• 11070709 PJC A-3 1 April 1994
