Install 4 monitoring wells M%V-5 to MW-8 with screen interval 35 to 55 feet bsg(similar
to existing M\V-1 to MWA) to define the lateral extent of the groundwater
contamination plume.
2. Install two vapor wells VW-1 and VW-2 with screen interval 37 to 52 feet bsg.
3. Install one air sparge well SW-1 with screen interval 60 to 65 feet bsg.
4. Conduct feasibility tests for soil vapor extraction and air sparge system evaluate
potential interim remediation.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1. Although oxygenates were not detected in previous investigation, the detection limits of
the analyses of MW-1 samples Guly 2003)were too high. Therefore, all 5 oxygenates
should be analyzed in this investigation to confirm the presence/absence of oxygenates.
2. The deepest boring proposed in this work plan is to 65 feet bsg. It is unlikely that the
scope of the work plan would be able to define the vertical extent of the contamination.
In a telephone conversation with Horizon on November 9, 2004,EHD stated that a
separate proposal with deeper borings using technologies such as cone penetrometer
should be submitted to EHD to identify the lithology and define the vertical extent of
the contamination of the site. However,EHD does not require the submission of this
additional proposal before implementation of the above-referenced work plan.
3. Include cross-sections of the lithology and concentration contour in the report.
4. Begin implementation of the proposed work by December 15,2004.
REASONS FOR DISAPPROVAL OF THE WORKPLAN (H&S 25296.10 (c)(3).):
None C
DATED November 9.2004BY4 } (/v
C: RWQCB,Central Valley Region—James L.
