(Horizon).
The CAP included a summary of the results of the soil and ground'awer investigations
conducted at the site, and a calculation of the contamination mass remaining in the soil and
groundwater. Horizon calculated an estimate of 1,182 gallons Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), 1.1 gallons benzene, and 0.02 gallons 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA) left remaining in 56,520 cubic feet of impacted soil below surface, and a
dissolved mass of 37 gallons TPH-g, 4.1 gallons benzene, and 0.23 gallons of 1,2-DCA in
groundwater. Horizon evaluated 3 remediation alternatives: passive remediation (natural
attenuation),groundwater pump and treat, and soil vapor extraction enhanced by in-situ air
sparging (SVE/IAS). Based on the cost estimate, and the results of the SVE pilot study
conducted in May 2005, Horizon concluded that SVE/IAS to be the most cost-effective
remediation technology.
EHD concurs with Horizon that SVE/IAS is the remediation technology of choice. Submit
a work plan to install a SVE/IAS remediation system to EHD by August 20, 2006.
