(Horizon). In May 2005, soil vapor
extraction (SVE) and air sparge (AS) pilot studies were conducted at the
above-referenced site. Soil vapor was extracted from only one vapor well VW-
1 during the first 4 hours, and during the second 4 hours SVE was performed
from both VW-1 and MW-1. Influent flow was as high as 31.6 standard cubic
feet per minute (scfm), and analytical results of the influent vapor sample was
12,000 parts per million by volume (ppmv) of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
as gasoline "H-g) during the first 4 hours, and as high as of 23,000 ppmv of
TPH-g during the second half. Horizon calculated a vapor extraction rate of
124.18 pounds per day (ppd) of TPH-g during the first half of the SVE test,
and 472.78 ppd for the second half. For the radius of influence (ROI),
Horizon reported variable distances of 38 feet to the north of VW-1, and 53
feet to the south of VW-1, and 72 feet to the southwest of VW-1. The AS test
was performed as a separate test using sparge well SW-1 as the air injection
point for a period of 7 hours, and the SVE was subsequently turned on at the
6.5 hour mark for a period of 1.25 hours. After 3 hours of air sparging, air
pressure stabilized at 19 scfm at 13 pounds per square inch (psi) air pressure.
Based on rises in concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO), Horizon estimated
the AS ROI at 24 feet to the north. The AS ROI to the south may be very
