19
6. Increase the vacuum on the well by 10 in. H2O and repeat steps
5 and 6 until the vacuum on the well reaches the maximum
vacuum calculated to be applied to the well as evaluated by
the site engineer. The maximum amount of vacuum to be applied
to the well is to be less than the total amount of screen
available in the vadose zone so the groundwater in the well
casing does not submerge the entire well screen.
' The step test data will be recorded as the test is being
conducted on the form provided in Appendix B. The flow and vacuum
data will be plotted in an X -Y graph on a field computer as the
' test proceeds. The transition from laminar to turbulent vapor flow
in the well will be indicated by a decrease in the slope of the
' graph. Based on the results of the step vacuum test, a decision
will be made by the site engineer as to the vacuum and flow rate to
maintain during the vent test.
6.2 Vent Test
The vent test will be performed after the step vacuum test is
completed and the initial conditions are measured and recorded, the
' soil venting test will begin.
Data collected during the vent test will include water levels
' and pressure readings at wells PZ -1, PZ -2, MW -2, MW -4, MW -5, MW -7,
MW -10 and flow rate and pressure readings at the vent blower.
Vapor samples, humidity, and temperature measurements will be
collected from the blower at the time intervals specified in Table
1. Vapor samples will also be analyzed on site by the use of a
' flame ionization detector (FID).
The duration of the vent test may be longer or shorter than
anticipated based on data collected during the test.
The radius of influence created by the venting system will be
' evaluated from pressure changes observed at the piezometers and
monitoring wells. If a pressure less than the baseline pressure
(vacuum) is measured at a monitoring well, then that well will be
assessed to be within the radius of influence of the vent well.
07/94/1213821125997/REM REP/1 July 1, 1994 9 26am
