4.2 System Operation and Monitoring Procedure <br /> 4.2.1 Description of Start-up and Operation <br /> ' The system will be operated continuously during the first two quarters of <br /> operation It is expected that hydrocarbon concentrations will have decreased <br /> significantly by that point and the operation schedule will be reevaluated at <br /> ' that time The venting blower will be controlled by a high level float switch <br /> in the vapor/liquid separator If condensate accumulates in the separator to <br /> the level of the high level float switch,the venting blower will be shut down <br /> until the separator is manually drained and the system is re-started Venting <br /> blower shutdown will activate a visible alarm <br /> The soil venting system will be started-up prior to the sparging system <br /> Vapor monitoring will be conducted during startup to monitor recovered <br /> vapor concentrations A dilution air valve will be opened or closed to adjust <br />' the flow of vapor from the vent well Spargmg will be initiated after venting <br /> flow and vapor concentrations have begun to stabilize <br />' 42.2 General System Monitoring/Maintenance <br /> General system monitoring will consist of recording venting and sparging <br /> flow rates, pressures at the blowers, and well pressures at several monitoring <br /> points <br />' System maintenance will include visually inspecting piping connections and <br /> mechanical equipment, lubricating equipment according to manufacturer's <br /> recommendations, and periodically testing the control functions Site visits <br /> will be conducted weekly for the first month, biweekly for the second month, <br /> and monthly thereafter Facility personnel will be instructed to check for <br /> visual blower alarm <br />' 4.2.3 Vapor Sampling and Analysis <br /> Vapor samples will be collected and analyzed to monitor site remediation and <br /> monitor air emissions Vapor samples will be collected monthly during <br /> system operation Sample analytical results will be retained on site for <br /> potential inspection by the San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control Board <br /> Remedial Action Work Plan <br /> Prepared for THE EARTHGRAINS COMPANY Prepared by Philip services Corp <br /> H 1EN A624001451RAP61300 doc 13 8/31/00 <br />
