Chemicals IN REPLYijREFER TO SITE CODE: 2042
3437 S. Airport ;
Stockton, CA 95206
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, ,;Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed your Soil§Sampling Work Plan dated
October 16, 1990. In the introduction of the Work Plan it states
that four samples were taken from the bottom of the tank excavation
on June 26, 1990 and that B.P. Chemicalsllsubsequently submitted a
report to our office. We did not receive ,this report or comment on
.
On July: 31, 1990, a Leaching Potential' Analysis Worksheet was
completed for your site using the results submitted by California
Water Labs on the soil sampled February -1123, 1990, following the
underground tank removal. Xylene was detected at 92,000 parts per
billion -(ppb) which is above the level of contamination, for this
gasoline" constituent, that may be allowed to remain in the soil
given your site conditions according to th6 worksheet. It was also
noted that the detection limitsused by the laboratory for benzene,
toluene,;ethylbenzene and total petroleum1hydrocarbons as gasoline
on these soil samples were not as sensitive asIthe detection limits
listed in the LUFT field manual so the results do not reflect the
information needed to make a good assessment of the contamination
at the site.
On August 2, 1990, we mailed you a copy of the Tri --Regional
Recommendations and Appendix A for guidance in submitting a re -
excavation plan. The Work Plan you submitted lacks information.
The following items are to be addressed, inan addendum to the
submitted Work Plan by January 21, 1991.1'
1. Provide a drawing of the tank jexcaIva tion and show the
proposed amount of further excavation. State the total
amount of soil to be excavated. Show the proposed
sampling locations in the excavation (sidewall and
bottom) and on the stockpiled soil.
A ]Division of San Joaquin County Healch Care Services 0
