X
' 4.0 SITE REMEDIATION
The Best Available Technology (BAT) used to remediate the site included soil excavation and
' natural attenuation of contaminants through microbial action. Section 3 1 presents the volumes
of soil and mass of contaminants removed during soil excavation and remaining after soil was
' excavated. Background (i e., non detect) concentrations of TPHe in soil was unattainable during
tank excavation due to the large volume of soil that would have to be removed and disposed of.
TPHe remaining in soil should not pose a threat to groundwater because of the low
concentrations present (less than 70 mg/kg) and the depth to groundwater (42 ft bgs) Over time
1 the TPHe remaining in soil will naturally degrade through microbial action
Active groundwater remediation was not conducted at the site However, the low concentrations
of TPHe should decrease over time as natural degradation occurs The water supply well
located on the site is regularly tested and has not been impacted by TPHe
1
' UPROJECrSLSANJOQWCMVCD 5 3 May 1996
