34A} : F F1O 2 7
2. Immediately after sample collection and labeling, the samples will be sealed in a
plastic batt and placed in a sturdy ice chest. The temperature in the ice chest will
be maintained at or below 4°C.
3. Soil samples and groundwater samples will be delivered to a State of
Californis-cettificd chemical analytical laboratory within 48 hours of sampling
along with a completed chain-of-custody record.
4. Soil samples not selected for laboratory analyses will be placed in iced storage
for no fewer than 14 days.
6.0 QUALITY ASSLTtANCEIQUALITY CONTROL
In order to ensure a successful sampling program, Quality Assurance and Quality Controi
procedures will Ix carefully followed. The key points of the Quality Assurance procedures
pertain to the submittal of quality assurance samples and document control (decontamination
procedures have been previously discussed).
6.1 ' Quality assurance Satrapies
Quality a,surance samples will be used to evaluate the quality of the data obtained from
the field Frogram. Two distinct types of quality assurance samples will be used for this
purpose.
1. Blind duplicates of water samples will be submitted to the testing
laboratory at a minimum rate of 1 per 10 regular samples obtained, but
ao less than one per ice chest,to determine the precision of the
laboratory analyses.
2. F-eld travel blanks will be submitted at a rats of 1 per 10 water samples
collected, but no less than one per ice chest, in order to determine if
cross contamination occurred in transit. All field travel blanks will be
supplied by the testing laboratory.
Soil and groundwater samples will be submitted to a State of California-certified
analytical1aboratory for chemical analyses. Established QA/QC procedures for
analytical operations will include sample custody procedures,Standards of analytical
accuracy, analyses of matrix spikes and method blanks, data reducrion, verification of
raw analytical data, and maintenance of control charts to monitor.analytical
performance. These QA/QC procedures are outlined in the laboratory Quality
Assuranc('/Quality Control Plan which is available upon request. Organic chemical
analyses will be performed in conformance with standard procedures established by the
United States Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) in"Guidelines Establishing Test
Procedures for the Analysis of Pollutants Under the Clean Water Act"
{40 CFR]'art 136, October 1984). The laboratory is periodically evaluated through
external audits conducted by the EPA and the State of California Department of Toxic
.Substances Control using QC laboratories.
402331-98_63 A-6
