A3. Pre -Installation Testing
WARNING! Do not pressurize tanks over 5 psi. Tank
damage or physical injury can result.
• All tanks must be tested for leaks prior to installation.
Use the visual air/soap test.
• Visual Air/Soap Test - to be performed on all tanks.
Cl Warm weather soap solution - 5 gallons of water
with 8 ounces of household dishwashing detergent.
❑ Freezing conditions soap solution - substitute 1 gal-
lon of automotive windshield washer solution for 1
gallon of water.
❑ Cover entire tank outer surface with soap solution.*
❑ Cover all fittings with soap solution.
❑ Carefully inspect for leaks as indicated by bubbles.
❑ Roll tank to inspect bottom. Ensure fittings and/or
collars do not contact ground.
`Exception - double-wall tanks with annular space liquid filled.
• in the unlikely event a tank leak is discovered, discon-
tinue the installation and immediately call Fluid Con-
tainment Field Service to schedule a repair. Phone num-
ber is listed on page 2.
Testing Single -Wall Tanks
These tests must be performed before installing tanks:
• Remove fitting plugs.
• Apply pipe dope and reinstall fitting plugs.
• Pressurize tanks.
❑ 4' through 10' diameter tanks to 5 psi maximum.
❑ 12' diameter tanks to 3 psi maximum.
❑ Use a pressure relief valve for additional protection.
• Soap the tank and carefully inspect for leaks as indi-
cated by bubbles.
• Maintain test pressure and continue inspection for at least
30 minutes.
DO
Use a maximum 15 psi air gauge with '/4 or '/z lb. incre-
ments.
• Make sure you understand these instructions. If in doubt,
call Tank Technical Support at 409-756-7732.
DO NOT
• Approach endcaps or manways while tanks are under
pressure. This could result in personal injury.
• Lift or hoist a tank under pressure. This could result in
personal injury.
Use a vacuum gauge.
;Leb-
Testing Double -Wall Tanks with Dry Annular Space
This section is for tanks which do not have monitoring tracer
fluid installed_ If tank arrives at site with monitoring fluid
installed, use instructions for Double -Wall Tanks with An-
nular Space Filled on page 4.
For All Tests:
DO
• Install air gauge at the fitting where the air pressure hose
is connected to the tank.
• Install a second gauge at the other end of tank.
• Use a maximum 15 psi air gauge with %. or %2 lb. incre-
ments.
DO NOT
• Lift or hoist a tank under pressure. This could result in
personal injury.
Outer Wall Test
Step #1
• Close manifold valve between primary tank and annular
space.
• Pressurize primary tank to 5 psi maximum.
• Use a pressure relief valve.
Air supply
Manifold valve open
valve to air supply (5 psi maximum)
closed
Air gauge
Air
gauge
Manifold system (supplied with tank)
Monitoring fitting
Do not connect the air supply directly to the monitoring
Fitting or tank damage will result.
Step #2
• Close the air supply valve to the primary tank.
• Disconnect the air supply.
Step #3
• Open the manifold valve in order to pressurize the tank
annular space.
• Pressure may drop slightly.
V/I`-(o1(
