Before you begin <br />• Read, understand and follow these instructions. <br />• Barricade the tank area until job is completed. <br />• Complete the installation checklist Pub. No. 8894. A copy <br />of the properly completed installation checklist must be <br />retained by the tank owner and/or installation contractor <br />to validate any future warranty claim. <br />• Check with local authorities for final precision testing <br />requirements, if any. <br />• If you have questions on other installation details, such <br />as specific procedures for adding tanks to an existing <br />installation or alternate installation techniques, contact <br />your local Fluid Containment Sales Representative. If <br />he or she is not available, call Tank Technical Support, <br />Conroe, Texas, 409-756-7732. <br />• If you have other questions regarding tank modifications, <br />such as adding fittings or manways, or a tank repair, <br />contact Fluid Containment Field Service: <br />Field Service Supervisors - 814-542-8520 <br />Al. Handling <br />• The customer is responsible for rigging, unloading and <br />securing the tank. <br />• All Single -Wall and Double -Wall Tanks must be mechani- <br />cally unloaded. They may not be self -unloaded by the <br />driver. <br />• For temporary storage of tanks at job site: <br />0 Read Placement Instructions (in the shipping packet) <br />prior to unloading tanks. <br />O Set on smooth ground (no protruding rocks, or hard <br />objects). <br />I] Single -Wall - chock with sandbags provided. <br />0 Double -Wall - place tanks on the shipping pads and <br />chock with sandbags provided. <br />0 If high winds are anticipated, tie the tanks down to <br />prevent damage. <br />Lifting Tanks <br />• Use ONLY lifting equipment to move tanks. <br />• Check capacity of lifting equipment before hoisting or <br />moving tanks. <br />• USE ALL LIFT LUGS PROVIDED to lift tank. <br />• Guide the tanks with guide lines. <br />DO NOT <br />• Roll* or drop tank as this could damage the tank. <br />Angle <br />60°-90° <br />\4/ <br />• Use chains or cables around tanks, as this could damage <br />tank. <br />Stand on tank while it's being lifted. This could result in <br />personal injury. <br />' Tank may be rolled on pads during air/soap test. Ensure fittings and/or <br />collars do not contact ground. <br />A2. Bed and Backfill <br />The use of approved backfill material is critical to long <br />term tank performance. Failure to use approved back- <br />fill may result in tank failure. <br />DO <br />• Replace all excavated native soil with approved backfill <br />of proper size and gradation. Use backfill which meets <br />ASTM C-33 paragraph 7.1 for quality and soundness. <br />See approved materials, below. <br />• Require your backfill supplier to certify that the backfill <br />meets this specification. <br />Keep backfill dry and free of ice in freezing conditions. <br />Use only approved backfills. <br />DO NOT <br />• Mix approved backfill with sand or native soil. <br />• Backfill with sand or native soil. <br />• Use unapproved backfill materials as these could re- <br />sult in tank failure. <br />Approved Gravel Approved Crushed Stone <br />Must consist of clean, naturally- or Crushed Gravel <br />rounded aggregate with a mix of Must be washed with angular <br />particle sizes not less than 1/8" particle size not less than 1/8" <br />or more than 3/4". or more than 1/2". <br />No more than 5% may pass the No more than 5% may pass <br />48 sieve.
