EIDE®
#403. Failed to keep hazardous waste containers closed except when adding or re"iao X017
hazardous waste.
ENVIRONPti=h'TAL
CORRECTIVE ACTION H`=ALT Il DEPARTMENT
Secondary containment units for hazardous material drums—These units are designed for
secondary containment and not for storage of hazardous waste. The units were cleaned out and
will be inspected on a daily basis to ensure that they do not store hazardous waste.
Alodine table - The existing table pan will be inspected and repaired to prevent liquid
accumulation and ensure proper drainage into closeable hazardous waste container. The alodine
table pan is not intended to "hold" liquid. The pan is to collect process liquid (large surface
funnel) and immediately drain into a closeable hazardous waste container. A process upgrade
plan will be developed and implemented to improve the collection, drainage, and storage
methods. This is anticipated to be completed by January 1, 2018.
Titanium etch tanks—There was no liquid in the secondary containment unit. Chris Hansen used
a bright flashlight at 3 different locations of the containment unit requested by Michelle Henry,
and each location showed no signs of liquid. Michelle verbally acknowledged there was no
liquid at each of the locations.
9407. Failed to manage incompatible waste in containers properly.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Incompatible wastes in the lab have been separated from each other.
#408. Satellite accumulation container not located near point of generation and under
control of operator.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
This item requires additional time to evaluate and develop a plan. This has a dramatic effect on
business operations so we'll need time to explore and assess the fiscal impact, equipment needs,
personnel requirements, procedural changes, training requirements, documentation, etc.
Anticipate completion of the plan by September 1, 2017.
#409. Satellite accumulation exceeded 55 gallons of HW per waste stream.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
One of the solvent wipe drums was removed from the Building 5 satellite accumulation area. A
solvent wipe drum and chromium contaminated debris drum were removed from Building 3.
#502. Failed to comply with new hazardous waste tank system assessment requirements.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Required corrections from a preliminary report on the existing chromium treatment system was
completed on June 14, 2017. The final report is anticipated to be completed by July 14, 2017
and a copy will be submitted to the SJEHD.
