Box 889024 <br /> San Francisco,California 94188-9024 <br /> Subject: Waste Characterization of Brake Grindings/Fine Particles <br /> Stockton,California Vehicle Maintenance Facility <br /> AECOM Project Number: 60321040 <br /> Dear Mr. Langsjoen: <br /> AECOM is pleased to present this report containing results from sampling brake grindings at the <br /> Stockton, California vehicle maintenance facility (VMF). The purpose of this project was to <br /> develop a characteristic profile to guide United States Postal Service (USPS) management and <br /> disposal actions for this waste stream. A summary of the work performed, sample results, and <br /> recommendations,are presented below. <br /> SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> Ms. Carmen Goodell, Project Scientist from AECOM's Oakland,California office, visited the VMF <br /> to perform the required waste stream sampling on May 7,2014. <br /> Sampling personnel used laboratory-provided sample containers to scoop a representative sample of <br /> the brake grindings from a drum stored in the maintenance area. The sample container was labeled, <br /> packed in a cooler with ice, and shipped to the Test America Sacramento laboratory. Test America <br /> is approved under the California EPA Region 9 State Program. <br /> The following analyses were performed for brake grinding sample: <br /> • Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) for Metals (arsenic, barium, cadmium, <br /> chromium, lead, mercury,selenium,silver)by SW-846 Method 6010/7471 <br /> • Particle size analysis by ASTM D422 <br /> • California Waste Extraction Test (WET) as required by California Code of Regulations <br /> (CCR) Title 22 Div. 4.5, Ch.II Appendix II, for Metals (antimony, arsenic, barium, <br /> beryllium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, <br /> selenium,silver,thallium, vanadium, and zinc <br /> • Acute aquatic toxicity (fish bioassay)by CCR Title 22 96-hour Fathead Minnow Hazardous <br /> Waste Screening Bioassay <br /> Test America subcontracted the fish bioassay analysis to Aquatic Testing Laboratories in Ventura, <br /> California. <br /> SAMPLE CHARACTERIZATION <br /> Analytical results were evaluated to consider the following potential waste designations: <br /> \\ussdos0l\data\group\483083-Q-0351_DFR\01-Task Order <br /> Proposals\00-ACTIVE PROJECTSM321040-Brake Grind HW <br /> CharacterizationV.0 Deliverables\Stockton brake grindings report.docx <br />
