The San <br /> Joaquin River is located 7 to 10 miles east of Tracy and <br /> supplies the Carabana Irrigation Canal that runs along the <br /> east side of the plant. The river also provides <br /> recreational activities for the area. Drainage from the <br /> general area flows to the south and southeast through 7 to <br /> 10 miles of open ditches, leading eventually to the San <br /> Joaquin River. <br /> OPERATIONS <br /> The Tracy facility formulates sodium hypochlorite solutions <br /> (liquid bleach) from caustic and chlorine, and repackage and <br /> distribute a line of industrial and household chemicals by <br /> company truck to the wholesale market and to other company <br /> warehouses. The operation responds to a seasonal cycle for <br /> pool supplies and employs 40 to 60 people. <br /> Bulk liquid caustic and muriatic acid are received by rail <br /> car or truck and stored in aboveground atmospheric storage <br /> tanks located outside in a concrete diked area near the <br /> warehouse. Liquid chlorine is received by rail car and is <br /> gradually unloaded directly into the bleach making or <br /> repackaging process. Liquid potassium hydroxide is also <br /> -4- <br />
