Summary of Wastewater Treatment System and Overall Procedure
<Types of wastes treated>
Water solution of Zinc Phosphate, Zinc Nitrate and Nickel Nitrate, which comes from rinsing
process Zinc Phosphate pretreatment.
<Treatment process description>
Wastewater from the zinc phosphate rinsing procedure will be collected in an equalization tank.
The transfer pump will pump the wastewater to the reaction and mix tank#1. In this tank, a
coagulant will be added to break the emulsion.A mixer will keep the reaction tank agitated. In this tank,
caustic soda will be added to adjust the final pH, controlled by a pH meter. The treated water will then
flow to the flocculation tank.
In the flocculation tank, polymer will be added to enlarge the floc. The polymer addition will be
agitated by a mixer. The treated water then gravity flows to the clarifier. In the clarifier, the"floc" settles
to the bottom of the clarifier. The treated water exits the clarifier via plug flow through an overflow
baffle/weir arrangement to the sewer.
The settled floc is pumped automatically to a sludge holding tank. The sludge is then pumped
automatically from the bottom of the sludge holding tank to the Beckart recessed plate, gasketed, filter
press for dewatering of the solids. The filtrate out of the filter press will be piped to return back to the
equalization tank for reprocessing.
<Overall Procedure>
1. Press the green button, 'PROCESS/START/ON", to start the system
2. System are automatically operated
3. Follow"Record Procedure for Wastewater Treatment'for daily record
4. When filter press time-up alarm sounds, see"Filter Press Procedure"
5. When Drum Empty alarm sounds, see "Drum Change Procedure"
6. When Polymer need to be added, see "Polymer B-40 Addition Procedure"
7. Press the red button, 'PROCESS/STOP/OVER", to shut off the system
This procedure is done by maintenance (Plant superintendent for back up)
