Inspection Report
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories
Site 300
Inspection date - October 28 and 29, 2003
phone, which worked properly, and the decon station. Both the eye wash and shower worked adequately. We
left this area and proceeded on to Bldg. 845-A.
While at Bldg. 845-A I observed the control room. Both open burn and open detonations are controlled from
this location. Bldg. 845-A is the open detonation area. I observed that the area was clean of vegetation, and
the gate to the detonation pad was shut and locked. I also reviewed inspection logs for both Bldg. 845-A/B.
For details and results of the document review, see section three of this report.
CLOSED EWTF UNIT, BLDG. 829:
Next I observed the site of the closed Bldg. 829. This facility was an open burn pit. A closure certification
report, dated February 3, 1999 was submitted to the Department. The Department approved the closure
certification in a letter dated July 7, 1999.
The only thing that remains is the capped pit which has a drainage system for diverting run off. I walked around
a portion of the capped treatment area. The grasses were not over ankle high. The drainage ditch, which is
cement lined, was clear of debris. The inspection logs were reviewed during the document review. See
section three of this report for details and results of that review.
V. VIOLATIONS
Summary of Observations attached? Yes (Attachment A)
VI. CONCLUSIONS
After completing my inspection, I held an exit briefing. A sign in sheet was passed around (Attachment B). I
thanked everyone for their cooperation and stated that I had observed no violations during my inspection.
Details of the locations visited were provided, and I explained that I would send them a report within sixty five
days from today. I asked if they had any question. There were no questions. I gave Mr. Sadlacek the
Summary of Observations to review and sign. After receiving the original signed Summary of Observations,
again thanked everyone for their cooperation and courtesy. This concludes my inspection report.
DTSC (3/95) Pale 11 of 12
