(Ground Zero) and has the following
comments.
The Work Plan proposes the installation of three shallow, groundwater monitoring wells
for lateral investigation of the site, and one deep soil boring for vertical investigation of
the site. One shallow well will be installed in the former tank 1pit area, utilizing a limited
access drill rig. The other two shallow wells will be installed approximately west and
northwest of MW-2. The deep boring will be installed rear well MW-1, to a total depth of
75 feet below surface grade (bsg), utilizing direct push;technology. Cone penetrometor
testing (CPT)will be used to obtain lithology information from 25-75 feet bsg. This
information will be used to target possible water bearing units for the collection of depth
discrete groundwater samples. Groundwater samples; will be analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline by EPA Method 801513;,benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and xylenes by EPA Method 8021 B, and'fuel oxygenate additives,
1 ethylene dibromide and 1,2-dichloroethane by EPA Method 825013. Should the
analytical results from these samples report contamination, deep discretely screened
monitoring wells will be installed. This work is approve0 as outlined.
Information was submitted to supplement the original well survey. The total depths and
construction details of the onsite production well and the closest domestic well are still
unknown. Ground Zero reported that this information is still being researched. If the
total depths cannot be determined, Ground Zero proposes to perform an evaluation of
the influence these wells may have on the contaminant plume by monitoring the
groundwater elevations in the onsite monitoring wells while pumping from each well
individually over a period of time. Without well construction details and a driller's log,
this test may be useful if properly designed. The onsite monitoring wells should certainly
ji be a part of the test, but a deep well in a sentinel position, screened in an interval
thought to be a potential contaminant migration pathway would be needed to get data on
the response of groundwater at or just below the base"of the.jplume. The site
hydrogeology at the base of the plume should be well characterized.
f
;r ;I
