nwnwuaanraa aiauvnce.. o.. ,. • - --. .. . - . .
May 28, 1996.
Stockton Record
Stockton, CA.
Attention: Mr Jim Gold, Editor.
Dear Mr. Gold,
Is anyone out there listening? I'm trying to discover how Westrec Corporation is
being allowed to install a huge Hydro-Lift in the waters of Disappointment Slough at
Holiday Harbor Marina on Eight Mile Road. I simply can't understand how the County
Planning Commission allowed this to happen without first having the mandatory
environmental impact studies done and proper building permits issued. These studies
should include such agencies as Fish and Game, United States Coast Guard and San
Joaquin County and State of California Environmental Agencies.
The purpose of this monstrouainstallation is to allow a houseboat rental fleet
which is moving into the Delta from Nevada, to lift their fifty-foot plus houseboats out of
the water so they can perform maintenance and repair work directly over the surface of
the water here in Disappointment Slough.
This will result in huge amounts of pollution going directly into the waters of the
Delta resulting in the further decimation of the already fragile and extremely delicate
environmental balance of this beautiful area which has been my home for nearly
twenty years.
I find it hard to believe you have no interest in this matter. After two weeks of
trying to get answers and generate interest in this abomination, I must admit the results
are very discouraging. However, I intend to press forward until I receive some
satisfactory explanations. Here's the results of my efforts to date:
Stockton Record- Four faxes, one lettgr-No answer_
G
Congressman Richard Pombo- Five Faxes, one letter I received a
letter from Congressman Pombo which begins "Dear Mrs. Allen and
explains his lack of jurisdiction in this matter because it's in Galifornia,
not Washington D.C. (Mr. Allen, if you read this, Mrs. Allen is not now and
never has been on my houseboat. Check with Congressman Pombo; the
letter is signed plain 'Richard' and the fact that
my name is also Richard,
is purely coincidental.)
Senator Pat Johnston- Several taxes, one letter.- I received a letter
