6 .3 Chemical Storage
6 . 3 . 1 Acids
Liquid acids are normally received in plastic 5 or 55
gallon containers and are stored in the acid side of the
Chem Stores Area. Solid acids are packaged in either
sealed plastic-lined fabric bags or sealed plastic bags
within fiber board cartons and are stored in the Dry
Chemical Storage area.
6 . 3 . 2 Bases
Liquid bases (alkalies ) are normally received in plastic
5 or 55 gallon containers and are stored in the base side
of the Chem Stores Area. Solid bases are packaged in
either sealed plastic-lined fabric bags or sealed plastic
bags within fiber board cartons and are stored in the Dry
Chemical Storage area.
6 . 3 . 3 Flammables
These chemicals are normally flammable or combustible
liquids and are received in either plastic or metal
drums . They are stored in the flammables storage area.
Anti-static grounding cables and pumps are used when
dispensing these liquids .
6 . 3 . 4 Oxidizers
Liquid oxidizers (except nitric acid) are normally
received in plastic 55 gallon containers and are
currently stored in the acid side of the Chem Stores
Area. Nitric acid is dispensed in bulk and is currently
stored in the drum storage area with containment in an
elevated 300 gallon stainless steel tank. Solid
oxidizers are packaged in either sealed plastic bags
within fiberboard cartons or 5 gallon metal drums and are
stored in the Dry Chemical Storage area.
Plans are currently underway to build a separate covered
Oxidizer Storage area. This will hold both the liquid
and solid oxidizers.
