The manufacturer must be contacted for shipping
requirements.
• If not accepted by the manufacturer, a representative sample of the mercury
switches should be profiled/tested by your local waste disposal/recycling vendor.
Once this profiling is completed, it does not need to be repeated each time
additional mercury switches need to be disposed, as long as this new waste is
similar to that previously tested.
• Broken switches, mercury from those switches, and materials that contain
mercury residue that must be managed as a hazardous waste and should not be
mixed with any other hazardous materials or chemicals.
• Waste mercury debris must be encased to prevent the mercury from evaporating,
stored in an appropriately labeled hazardous waste container, and placed in
secondary containment.
• Waste mercury debris must be transported by a registered hauler to an
authorized hazardous waste treatment facility for mercury recycling.
• A hazardous waste manifest must be completed when transporting the waste.
USED OIL
Used oil includes spent industrial oils (such as compressor, turbine, and bearing oil;
hydraulic oil; metal -working oil; refrigeration oil); spent lubricating fluids that have been
removed from the engine crankcase, transmission (i.e., transmission fluid), gearbox, or
an automobile, bus, truck, vessel, heavy equipment or machinery powered by an
internal combustion engine; or oils that have been used or otherwise rendered unfit for
their original use.
• Do not mix solvents, antifreeze or any other silicon based oils with the used oil.
However, oil such as petroleum based oils (i.e., motor oil, EP gear oil, automatic
Boretech Hazardous Materials & Hazardous Waste Management Operations Plan Page 124
